Fists of Hope: A Poem For JNU

The future attacks minorities
looking for shelter in temples
mosques and churches.

The future invades countries
downloading freedom
in bits of torrents.

The future arrests students
from open campuses
for occupying history.

The future drills holes
in our bodies to lobotomize us
to control us remotely.

The future refuses to stop
its pre-emptive war on
the world’s democracies.

The future files us on a blacklist
because we resist:

We ferment like invasive seeds
of dissent in grounds
unavailable to them

We fight every epoch
clutching the yellow star
with fists of hope.
